¼ tspBlack Pepper 후추
3½ tbsGochujang (Hot Pepper Paste) 고추장
1 tbsSugar 설탕
1 tspGarlic (minced) 다진 마늘
1½ tspSesame Oil 참기름
⅓ cupWater 물
1 tspVegetable Oil 식용유
1 tspSesame Seeds 깨

Optional Ingredients and Substitutions
Sesame seeds are optional.
You can replace sugar with honey or pineapple juice.
You can also use mulyeot (Korean malt syrup) instead of sugar (OR use half sugar & half malty syrup) for a stickier consistency and an appetizing shine.

1. Sauté beef

Coat a frying pan with 1 tsp of vegetable or olive oil. Sauté ground beef with a pinch of black pepper on medium heat until it’s fully cooked.

  • 1 tsp vegetable oil
  • 100g ground beef
  • a pinch black pepper

2. Add other ingredients

Add 3½ tbs gochujang (hot pepper paste), 1 tbs sugar (see tips for substitution), 1 tsp minced garlic, ½ tbs sesame oil and ⅓ cups water and bring it to boil. Then cook on low to medium heat for another 5 min or until most of the liquid is gone.

3. Serve

Serve on a small side dish and top with sesame seeds (optional).
