Pan-fried Tofu, Dubu Buchim
Everyone knows tofu is good for the body. This dish also gives it a great flavor and a nice kick, adding real zest to the healthy favorite.
This is probably a dream dish for vegetarians and vegans.

|11 oz||Tofu, Firm (for panfrying) 부침용 두부 (about half block of average tofu)|
|1 tsp||Vegetable Oil 식용유|
|1⅓ tbs||Soy Sauce (regular) 왜간장|
|1 tsp||Sesame Oil 참기름|
|1 tsp||Gochugaru, Korean Hot Pepper Flakes 고추가루(optional)|
|1 tsp||Garlic (minced) 다진 마늘|
|1 tsp||Chopped Green Onion 다진파|
|1 tsp||Sugar 설탕|
|½ tsp||Black Pepper 후추|
|2 tsp||Sesame Seeds 깨(optional)|
|½ oz||Silgochu, Chili Pepper Thread 실고추 (optional)|
Optional Ingredients and Substitutions
Chili thread (shredded & dried red chili pepper) and sesame seeds can be omitted.

1. Wash & Cut
Gently rinse the tofu under running water. Dry it with kitchen towel. Slice the tofu into rectangles (1¼” X 1½” X ⅜” or 3cm x 4cm x 1cm). You can cut into different sizes as long as the thickness is ⅜” or 1cm.

2. Add oil and tofu
Pour 1 tablespoon of the vegetable oil in a pan and add the sliced tofu. Do not preheat the vegetable oil! Water from tofu may make the hot vegetable oil splash all over you!.

Pan-fry the tofu for 2 minutes on high heat for each side. (If you are worried about burning your tofu, do it on LOW heat for 5 min each side. However, tofu will be crispier on high heat.) When it turns golden brown, turn off the heat.

Mix all the seasoning ingredients in a bowl (4 teaspoon of soy sauce, 1 teaspoon of sesame oil, 1 teaspoon of red chili pepper flakes, 1 teaspoon of minced garlic, 1 teaspoon of chopped green onion, 1 teaspoon of sugar, ½ teaspoon of black pepper and 1 teaspoon of sesame seeds).
Place the pan-fried tofu on a plate and spoon the seasoning sauce evenly on top. Sprinkle some chile thread (optional). Enjoy!
